A Quote to Ponder
Robin Williams died yesterday. Even though there was an overwhelming press coverage and even blogs covering the news as well, I need to add my voice!
I met Robin in 1977 in Manhattan Beach, California, on the beach. I was working and he was running. His idea of running back then (I don’t know if it changed) was to run backward and in circles, his humor and character beamed out of his skin. I later saw him at a Comedy Club in Los Angeles county and fell in love with his absurd and entertaining humor. Robin died at age 63, not too much older than my 56 years old (in November 2014).
As Americans followed his life through his performances, whether in Stand-up, Television and Movies he became bigger than life. My favorite performances were on Comic Relief with another of my favorites Billy Crystal. Individually, they could charm the pants off any fan but together they had me laughing so hard I almost choked. Then adding Whoopi Goldberg into the mix and there was no way to avoid rollicking laughter.

“Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams sing and dance a 1940s-style number at the Comic Relief VII benefit, 1995. The annul event is staged to raise awareness and funds for America’s homeless men, women and children,” as stated on Comic Relief.org
Between the laughter there were sobering moments when the reason for the program was discussed.
Goodbye Robin! You made a difference in my life. I will miss you…

When I commented to my daughter (age 37) that Robin was so young she said, “Really, how young is that?” I shook my head and remembered saying the same thing to my elders.
