The Weekend

means

Kid’s Television

Vegging in front of the tube! Xavier and Damien eating ice cream and watching T.V.

I bet you are asking yourself, ” what does that have to do with frogs?” Frankly, I would be asking the same thing.

So glad you asked!

Programming for children under six must be a HUGE  marketplace. There are so many choices to make. The boys watch the same programs and episodes over and over. I can be really tedious. I managed to get a new episode of a favorite program. It’s “The Wiggles”.

 Long story short…..

The episode had a sketch/song & dance number about a FROG! I was shocked to see one of the performers squatting with their feet and forehands in a frog-like position and hopping up and down. This caught my attention. As it turns out the frog they were singing about is an greatly endangered frog who calls Australia home.

Okay, maybe long….

My next move was to grab the computer and look up this frog.

Introducing the Corroboree Frog!

The Northern & Southern Corroboree Frogs

From Wikipedia, “The Southern Corroboree Frog was considered relatively numerous within its very small distribution in the 1970s, as of June 2004 it had an estimated adult population of 64. This species has suffered declines of up to 80% over the past 10 years. It is found only within a fragmented region of less than 10 km² within Mount Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales. It is only found at 1300 m above sea level (Osborne 1989). It is currently listed as critically endangered and is considered to be one of, if not, Australia’s most endangered species.”
