Back to School Blues
Are your children (or grandchildren) Home Schooled or do they attend a Traditional school?
How do you help the children get ready? Get yourself ready?

Good Ole Charlie Brown by Shultz

I confess, I am excited for Kindergarten to begin and I pray he’s not bored and his teacher can recognize the difference between boredom and unruliness.
One of my daughters had this problem in Kindergarten through second grade; her teachers tried to push me to get her diagnosed for ADHD. I refused.
In second grade the teacher was sending home schoolwork with BIG F’s on them when they were clearly completed correctly. During a meeting (six weeks after second grade began) with the teacher and principle it was explained to me that my daughter was failing because, “she completes her work too fast and disrupts the other students who aren’t done yet.” It was all I could do to keep calm. I took my daughter out of that school the same day and enrolled her into a Magnet School that offered Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) & Seminar programs as well as a focus on Space Exploration and Science. She blossomed as a student and as a self-confident child. Second & Third grades she was in GATE. Fourth through Sixth grades she was in the Seminar Program; a guided independent study (district focused goals done at child’s pace). As a result when she moved into Seventh grade she was bored because she had completed most of the required curriculum. We home schooled for a year and moved into a district that offered students to take courses that were offered between eighth and twelfth grades based on pre-requisites and entrance readiness testing.
So back to the present. I am excited for our family to experience Kindergarten through Xavier’s eyes.
Damien has been in Nursery School this past year. He went two days per week until this week. He is on a three week break now. I am determined to take his “pre-reading” skills to the next level. Sight Words! Including how to spell his name. He already recognizes his name when written. The other skill I would like to have him fine-tune is his toilet training. Being three in December and his ever increasing ability to report when his diaper needs changing are key factors that are pushing me on. Of course, his parents and I are in agreement these things.

This is my absolutely favorite “mom blog”. When I use the term mom blog it really doesn’t fit Kelli’s site. Her site is better describes a blogger who writes for today’s woman/mother/blogger. When you open her blog there are many tabs to choose from but I chose the tab “New? Start here”.
On this page are links and descriptions of other pages on the blog; similar to a table of contents. Each page offers a wide range of information.
- Lifestyle
- Mind & Body
- Travel
- Save Money
- Homemaking
- Parenting
- Blogging
Kelli’s blog is multi-faceted. At the same location of the “New? Start Here” tab you will find posts like this:
“The Mommy Club Share Your Resources & Solutions #161” a new post with lots of links from moms who want to share. There are recipes, home schooling ideas and many other things.
Among all this blog has to offer was another recent post Kelli gave links to various fonts that are kid & education oriented. These are great! One such link is the Font Palace.

I know the “Print Dashed” font will get a lot of use in my house. Not only for practice printing but for word games. I am designing a beginner reader’s word search type puzzle for Xavier. He tries to find words in my mobile app but has little luck as mine is based on the Dictionary (unusual words). He is driven!
