A Quote to Ponder

We are our differences!
I was introduced to Margaret Mead’s work in a college class. The professor of the Cultural Anthropology class I took was obsessed with Margaret. At the time my obsession was being different and finding a way to stand outside of the status quo. I didn’t really care to get too involved with topics I “needed” for my Psychology major.
In reading about Ms Mead’s history on Wikipedia I have found a woman with whom I can relate and respect. Her educational achievements outshine mine; although against her PhD my life experience holds value. Our personal lives do parallel one another though.
- We were both the oldest of five children.
- We both married three times.
- We each gave birth to one child; a daughter.
- We both preferred the company of women.
In these circumstances we are similar, yet we stay individual.
The words in the quote, “…you are absolutely unique…” these words are true, in the genetic world. “Just like everyone else,” also true in biological ways.
